Done with Naps

Joshua has decided that he will not nap anymore. It started earlier this week ... he didn't sleep when I put him in his room on Monday or Tuesday and Wednesday we had his immunizations in the afternoon so he would have missed his nap anyway. Thursday he was with my parents in the afternoon and everyone just forgot about his nap. Today is Friday and he has been in his room for an hour and a half, playing with his bedtime teddy bear and talking loudly and excitedly the whole time. I need him to nap!! I need the quiet time in the middle of the day to play with James and get the house cleaned up/make some dinner. I was even planning to attempt a nap myself today. That is most definitely not going to happen now! At 20 months old, my boy is done with naps! My only salvation is that he will still go into his room and play for a while in the afternoon, around naptime. I think we will now have an hour each afternoon that is "quiet time" where he goes into his room and plays by himself ... it's not a 3 hour naptime but at least it's some time for myself (and James)!

Jeepers! That is rough. Owen only naos once a day now, but at least it is a big one so I can get stuff done.

Maybe he'll sleep longer at night for you, without the nap. Ben stopped taking naps in Canada, this last time. But he made up for it at night. He sleeps 10-11 hours total per day, with or without a nap. Too bad both your little ones wouldn't coordinate their naps with yours, eh;). Remember sleep before kids...I'd never trade now for then...but those were the days of beautiful sleep!!

Some days I long for the sleep of the childless (but like you said Marci, not enough to give up my kids!) :P

Joshua slept 15.5 hours that first nap-less night but now he's back to around 12-13 hours a night. He sure does get grumpy by bedtime though! I really hope we return to naptime soon ... the long night sleeps are good but he was sleeping 12 hours a night before and James definitely doesn't sleep for 12 hours!

I hope he will start taking naps again. Sometimes kids go "on strike", and he was always a good sleeper!

Brayden gave up naps around that time...I just make sure that he has "Quiet time" ...it gives me the peace and quiet time I need...I make him stay in his room for about an hour and a half. (Some days it works, some days it does not! Some days he chooses to nap and others to play) I put him to bed early when he doesn't nap!
